If you know our company, then you know that we love to teach marketing to our clients and the public. We teach marketing classes constantly.

This month we were asked to teach a high school marketing class about our “message to market match”.

Dr. Ron Marek, my business partner and co-owner of Phoenix-Bushido Marketing volunteered to teach two classes on this subject matter.  He loved the experience and so did the students. This is what they said..

But some people aren’t conformable with Social Media. They just don’t know where to start. If that’s you, then this First Page on Google Tip will help you to begin one step at a time.

First advice is to choose a social media tool and the best and most popular presently, 12.28.09, is Facebook.

How Do You Set up a Facebook Account

Take these steps and you’ll find it’s easy to do.

Go to Facebook.com and create a personal page first.

• Fill out your Full Name:
• Your Email:
• New Password:
• I am:
• Birthday:

Click Sign Up

You are now prompted to enter the password to your email so that Facebook can see who you know, that is already on Facebook.

I strongly suggest doing this so you can add as many friends as possible as fast as possible.

But you can also click skip this step.

You are then asked some basic info:

• High School you attend and the year you graduated.
• College or University that you attended.
• Company you work for.

Then you are asked to join a network. This is a group defined by geography that you live in. You can enter your city and it will give you a few options.

All these steps help Facebook to geographically target people for you to become friends with on Facebook.

The site will make certain suggestions of people in those networks or fitting the same description as you have provided, so you can request to become their friend.

Then you will be prompted to search for people you know by their name or email.

Remember that the more “friends you have” the more successful you will be in your social media marketing.

Now click on create profile. Here you can add more info about yourself:

• Add your Website.
• Add a Profile Picture.
• Add Hometown.
• Add Family Members.
• Add Relationship status.
• Add what you are interested in Men or women.
• Add what you are looking for.
• Add Political views. (We suggest you leave this out)
• Add religious views. (We suggest you leave this out)

I would not put anything that is too controversial here as you could offend potential friends.

You could then add your activities, hobbies, books you have read etc.

You should absolutely enter contact information. You are joining this site to BE FOUND!

One last step you will need to take is log into your email and confirm your Facebook account.

Now Facebook will make suggestions in the upper right.

Click on “See All” and look for people you know, and click “Add as a Friend”. (You can add a personal note if you like.)

You should only request a maximum of 50 friends per day, or Facebook can suspend your account as a spammer. (So don’t go to fast!)

Now you are set up with friends, update your status, share links, video and photos.

Add VALUE, have FUN, be SOCIAL! Then you will attract people to your office!

The next step you need to take is to create a business page. Facebook is very strict about this don’t use your personal page for business as your account may be suspended.
